Putting Safety First: National Safe Work Month in Victoria
October marks National Safe Work Month, a time to refocus on what matters most - ensuring every worker goes home safe and well, every day. Across Victoria, businesses are taking the opportunity to spotlight workplace safety through events, training, and important conversations about health, wellbeing, and risk prevention.
In civil construction, where safety underpins every project, this month serves as a reminder that a strong safety culture isn’t just compliance - it’s care. Many of our members already have plans in place to promote safety awareness throughout October, but if you’re still looking for ideas or opportunities to get involved, WorkSafe Victoria has a range of activities available across the state.

WorkSafe 2025 HSR Conference
Tuesday, 28 October 2025
Hosted by the Victorian Trades Hall Council and approved under Section 69 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, the annual HSR Conference brings together Health and Safety Representatives from all industries for a full day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration.
Elected HSRs are entitled to attend WorkSafe-approved training, so speak with your employer early to arrange time off.

WorkSafe Webinars: Health & Safety Month Series
WorkSafe is hosting a week of free, 45-minute webinars exploring key safety themes - from psychosocial hazards and risk management to dangerous goods, scaffolding safety, and the future of renewable energy.
These sessions are practical, industry-specific, and an excellent way for site supervisors, safety reps, and business owners to stay informed.
(Full schedule available on the WorkSafe website .)

Regional Health & Safety Breakfast Events
If you’re based regionally, don’t miss the chance to connect in person at one of WorkSafe’s upcoming safety breakfasts:
  • Warrnambool – Tuesday 21 October, 7:00 am
  • Horsham – Thursday 23 October, 7:00 am
  • Ballarat – Tuesday 24 October, 7:00 am
These free sessions bring together local industry leaders and WorkSafe representatives to discuss safety trends, challenges, and strategies for improvement.
WorkSafe’s 2025/2026 Priorities
WorkSafe has set an ambitious goal - to reduce workplace deaths by 30% and injuries by 20% by 2030.
The newly released Statement of Regulatory Intent 2025/2026 identifies five high-risk industries, including construction, as key areas of focus.
For construction, WorkSafe will continue to target hazards causing the most harm, such as falls from height, mobile plant incidents, and psychosocial risks.
